Project Statement
A look into motion design and simple animation over a semester. The focus is to learn new skills that may not be taught in some courses and to expand the amount of knowledge that I have about different topics. I will learn these new ideas and concepts by completing one small piece of motion design, animation, or CGI five days a week for 20 minutes daily.
Project Description
I hope that by the end of the semester, I will have more knowledge surrounding motion design and possibly even deeper topics like some CGI work. I want to expand my knowledge to cover almost all areas of design to aid in my ability to effectively portray messages to the public. For the most part, each day, there will be a different piece of work produced rather than a continued project over the semester, which is why most of the pieces may appear on the simpler side of possible designs. I have not had much experience in motion design, which is what interests me about the topic, and I want to see if I truly want to work in motion and film design like I am currently thinking. This project is a way for me to learn more about the topic and see how I react to working in a specific area, to see if I truly like the idea of working in motion design. An example of a popular motion designer is Maxim Zhestkov, who works to show connections between the physical and the digital work by creating designs that follow the way physics functions.
Project Rationale
I am hoping to learn more about the world of motion design and investigate the less-taught areas of design like CGI and animation. I am already thinking about possibly going into film for special effects, so I think that practicing more motion design and getting more of an understanding of the process will aid me in some of my decisions for the future. Furthermore, it is just a way to expand the boundaries of my knowledge and make me more prepared for whatever future outcome I later choose.
Project Plan
My plan for this project is to have a new piece of motion design each day that is completely different. This way, I am utilizing different parts of the software and learning different functions. In the beginning, I plan to use tutorials and slightly change them until I get more of a better grasp of how to use the software, and I can produce more original work centered around topics and areas that I have a lot of interest in. Currently, I am going to be using Adobe After Effects to create these designs because of my background that I have with the Adobe suite. I hope that over time, I can create more complex designs, which will show the growth that I have been able to achieve over many hours working with the software.
